Allianz Arena

Modern football stadium with color-changing facade and FC Bayern Museum

About this Destination

The Allianz Arena is Munich's iconic football stadium and home to FC Bayern Munich since the 2005-06 season. With a capacity of 71,000 spectators, the stadium features groundbreaking architecture including an innovative facade with exterior panels that change colors based on the playing team, creating a breathtaking view especially at night. Originally constructed for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the arena hosted the opening match between Germany and Costa Rica and later the 2012 UEFA Champions League final. The stadium consists of three tiers: lower tier (20,000 seats), middle tier (24,000 seats), and upper tier (22,000 seats), with 10,400 convertible standing room spaces. Additional features include 2,000 business seats, 400 press seats, 106 luxury boxes, and 165 wheelchair-accessible berths. The facility houses the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt museum, which opened in 2012 and chronicles the club's history from its founding in 1900 to current successes. Stadium tours offer behind-the-scenes access to player dressing rooms, the tunnel, press conference areas, and VIP sections. In 2024, the stadium's address was changed to Franz Beckenbauer Platz 5 in honor of the German football legend. The Allianz Arena represents cutting-edge stadium design and serves as a premier destination for football fans and architecture enthusiasts alike.
