À propos de cette destination

Theresienwiese, affectionately called "Wiesn" by locals, serves as the legendary home of Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival and folk celebration. This sprawling 42-hectare public space in central Munich transforms each September and October into a Bavarian wonderland that has captivated millions of visitors since 1810.\n\nThe grounds were originally established to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. Named in honor of Princess Therese, the Wiesn has evolved from a royal wedding celebration into an international cultural phenomenon.\n\nDuring Oktoberfest, the grounds host 14 large traditional beer tents (each accommodating 3,000-10,000 guests) and 20 smaller tents, operated by historic Munich breweries including Augustiner, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Spaten, Franziskaner, and Weissbier. Only beer brewed within Munich's city limits according to the Bavarian Beer Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) may be served.\n\nThe festival atmosphere combines traditional Bavarian culture with modern entertainment. Visitors dressed in lederhosen and dirndls enjoy authentic cuisine including Hendl (roasted chicken), Schweinsbraten (roasted pork), Weisswurst (white sausage), and massive pretzels. Traditional oompah bands, folk dancing, and Bavarian music create an authentic cultural experience.\n\nBeyond beer tents, the Wiesn features a spectacular funfair with over 200 attractions, including traditional carousels, modern roller coasters, and the iconic Ferris wheel offering panoramic views over Munich and the distant Alps.\n\nOutside Oktoberfest season, Theresienwiese serves Munich as a public park and event space, hosting concerts, Christmas markets, and other festivals. The nearby Bavaria statue and Hall of Fame (Ruhmeshalle) provide year-round attractions commemorating Bavarian history and culture.
